WORKING WITH US

Our client list ranges from retailers and wholesalers (regional and local) to the export, packing and processing markets. What they all have in common is an appreciation of excellent local produce and the personal service that only a small, knowledgeable and passionate company can offer.

If you would like to become one of our valued customers we would love to hear from you.

OUR PRODUCERS

Our local producers are the best in the business and all have Red Tractor accreditation. Two are even LEAF accredited.

We source our own seed for our farmers. This means we know the provenance of our potatoes from seed to plate. For more details about this service just get in touch, we'd be happy to help.

We are always keen to talk to other like-minded growers to discuss new partnerships and promotions.

CARING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Provenance and our grower group have always been aware of the environmental and social impact our businesses have on the natural landscape and local community.

We have continuously looked to reduce our collective carbon footprint, care for the land our potatoes are grown on and considered the economic impact our packing and growing has on local jobs and rural wealth creation.

Flora and Fauna

Some of our potato production is located near watercourses and wetlands which our farmers help to protect and maintain.

Near the Stodmarsh Nature reserve and Preston Marshes, ditches and reed beds are being restored rather than just maintained which has resulted in evidence of beavers, otters, water voles, and the discovery of Shining Ramshorn snails a few years ago created excitement! Reed beds are important for birds such as Bitten, Herons, Grey Lag, Canada geese, Teal, Woodcock, Snipe, Field Fare, Red Caps, Green Woodpecker, Greater Spotted Woodpecker and Reed Warblers.

Special care is taken to preserve grass buffer strips, and field margins which provide nectar sources and winter bird food. We are actively planting wildflower mixes in our field margins to encourage biodiversity.

Carbon Footprint

As part of the collective drive to reduce our Carbon Footprint we have been using the Cool Farm Tool to help us and our growers understand how positive steps can be taken to minimise our environmental impact. The Cool Farm Tool is an online greenhouse gas, water, and biodiversity calculator for farmers.

Food waste throughout the supply chain is a huge drain on resources. Therefore to reduce this impact, Provenance operates a whole crop marketing strategy. We find markets for all sizes, shapes and skin finishes in order to increase saleable yield and reduce wasted inputs and crop. Any tubers inedible for human consumption are returned to a grower for his cattle herd.

WELCOME TO PROVENANCE POTATOES

Welcome to Provenance Potatoes, growing and packing in the heart of Kent’s finest potato growing area. We LOVE local and as our name suggests, know exactly who grows every potato we sell, what field they grew them in and even the seed they originated from.

We oversee the washing, grading, packing and delivery of all our potatoes to ensure they reach you in exactly the way our farmers would want them to.

THE GARDEN OF ENGLAND

Kent has a rich agricultural heritage and enjoys some of the most fertile, productive fields and orchards in the country. It is small wonder then, that our potatoes taste so very good. It’s why we’re so passionate about them and so proud to be working with the best growers in Kent.

Maintaining and enhancing this fertility is fundamental to our business and the aim is always to improve the health of the soil and its structure. This is done in a number of ways:

Cover cropping – replenishes soils with extra nutrients and protection

Reduced cultivation which leads to less carbon loss to the atmosphere and is beneficial to earthworm populations

Use of compost and/or farmyard manure to increase soil organic matter

We love Kent potatoes and we know you’ll love them too. Go on give them a try.

OUR POTATOES

These are some of our most popular ranges. We regularly add new lines so if you don’t see what you are looking for just give us a call.
